Hill Reaquaintance
I've got a new run assignment starting on December 4th and ending on January 12th. It's a night run to Escondido (about 20 miles from Oceanside). 1600 until 0001, Tuesdays thru Saturdays.
Took Joy to Coco's Restaurant tonight; nice to get out once in a while.
I now sponsor a five year old Filipino boy living in the Philippine Islands. He has a real family so I am not exactly sure what's going on, but I should find out more in a week or so.

Another Crock Pot Success!
My liquid breakfasts are usually made in the blender with steel cut oats, quinoa, (these are soaked in boiled water from the kettle for 3 minutes on up) Ultra Meal Plus (Metagenics), Triple Greens Powder (Purity Products), cinnamon, powdered milk, 1/2 pear, 1/2 banana, add ice cubes and water then blend. A powerful drink.
Check out quinoa. Supposedly quite a bit of nourishment compared to other grains.

Called in sick
I'm now listening to Rose Mary Clooney's, Hey There, and it reminded me of my past: my mother and father.........after she had returned after a summer excursion with her sister and brother-in-law in the east. A sandhill too steep.
Spiders and Unity
Today, I attended Unity Christ Church in Carlsbad. I enjoyed the service and plan to make it my place of fellowship. Using a Google search will explain the philosophy and beliefs of Unity. I agree with their observations and I need some fellowship so I am now one of them. Interestingly, there is no membership per se, and "Unity does not emphasize formal membership and has never been preoccupied with gaining converts merely for the sake of numbers. In fact, Unity says that one can subscribe to its teachings and still retain membership in any other church. Unity's viewpoint is that there need be no conflict of religious beliefs. Unity believes that there is good in every religion and that we should keep our minds open in order to find the good when an opportunity is presented. In keeping with this attitude, people of various religions the world over find good in the practical Christian principles taught and promulgated by Unity. Unity has no strict creed or dogma. One might describe Unity as a religious philosophy with an 'open end,' seeking to find God's truth in all life, wherever it may be."

Workout experiment day
The Miracle Seven exercises seem to be producing results. I've lost about three inches in the waist line. Today I'm weighed in at 293 lbs. I expect to be in the 280's range by December 1st. I believe that yesterday was the first time I didn't do any "Seven" since starting the program. None of the exercises require lying down and that's very convenient.
I've been listening and reading C.S. Lewis and Joel Olsteen. I want to attach myself to some kind of Christian fellowship. The Unity program in Carlsbad seems interesting. With the exception of being pissed off in stressful moments I've concluded that I live my life by the principles of Christ, i.e., charity, kindness and respect for life so why not find a group of like minded people? It's kind of awkward if Joy doesn't go with me, but what the hey she might.
Work assignments for next week are from 0500 until 1230 everyday. This is very good.

Powder puff day at work
I worked up a crock pot preparation last night with tomato paste and lentils being the main stock and then adding a variety of veggies and herbs and olive oil. Very good tasting. I especially like the addition of chopped cheese string fingers to the mix.
It's a little after 8:00 p.m. so I have to pack lunch, shower and hit the rack.

How the time flys by
I've gone full time with NCTD, started September 21st. Am keeping up to the task, however a full workday feels differently than the former 20 hour work weeks. Planning on working full time until April of 2009.
Joy has been diagnosed with CLL leukemia. Since the diagnosis about five months ago she has been holding steady with her blood counts and therefore no chemotherapy or the likes. She doesn't aggressively pursue any lifestyle changes, i.e. smoke, drink and exercise. I am doing what I can, but I have to accept the fact that change is a very difficult thing to do, not impossible, but nonetheless very pressing.
I am struggling with lifestyle changes, namely exercise, weight loss and reduced beer consumption. I've exercised steadily since November 3rd and plan to do some aerobics after I complete this log. I now weight 295 and I am consulting with a naturopathic physician in Carlsbad.

Exam
hours of waiting I asked the receptionist if I could have a preliminary
BP check to see if I hadn't gone off the chart. After the acceptable
reading I asked that they use that result and I took my seat in the
waiting room comforted by the fact that I passed the blood pressure
check. The office had one doctor on hand and three emergencies.

stuff
Joy's birthday is tomorrow so Heather invited Joy up to Folsum, in
northern California, for a long weekend celebration. I'll be picking
her up at the airport Sunday night. Heather surprised her by picking
her up in her new Pontiac convertible (a retractable three piece solid
rooftop).
Took Nancy for her usual walk. I was able to get her to stay (for the
most part) until I was 40 yards away and then I called to her, when
she came a "treat" awaited her; we did this for about five sprints.
I'm going to try to this today without beating it into the ground since
we walk everyday I'm sure she'll teach me how she wants it done.
Lots of stuff to do around the house. Necessary stuff so I don't think
I'll be putting off anything. I made the list yesterday and thought
real hard about it.
Sounds like Denise and Collin are furiously putting all the details
together for their upcoming wedding. We're looking forward to the
occasion.
Life is pretty mellow around here.

Picked up a couple of patio chairs from Lowes in San Marcos.
Fortunately, I brought along a tie down rope. No sooner had I entered
Highway 78 traffic then the box began to take flight from the back of
the El Camino. I had wound the rope around the box and threaded the
remainder through the driver's window, behind my back, through the seat
belt and into my right hand. It worked that's about all I can say. I
hit the side roads and did a little exploring on the way back to Vista
Montana Way. After that had some beer and mexican food. Joy doesn't
like my favorite mexican diner so I go alone and bring food back. I
had some fish tacos and brought back some menudo for today. I can
think of no finer food to pack weight on to my frame. Bury me with a
chili rellanos beneath my pillow!
I see where NYPD and other agencies thwarted a terrorist attack.
People, people, people. Dumb ass people lend me your ears. This was a
police action, see how well it went. This action is as close as this
country should ever get to a war against terror. There is such thing
as a war against terror. Good, hard detective work and collaboration
with international agencies is the necessary formula. The United
States, led by a chimp and dick, are spending $250 million dollars a
day on a bogus war. $250 million dollars a day spent on the first 365
days after 9/11 would have given the world quite a terrorist tracking
system. 250 times 365 times X (X = rest of world $ contribution) = a
solid global plan to counter worldwide terrorists. Big Dick is trying
to tell us that by relocating our troops we would be "packing it in."
What a bunch of bullshit. See now how chagrined the Russians are after
redeploying from their Afghan debacle of ten years. They're just as
cunning and effective as ever. I laugh every time I think of President
Chimp looking into the cameras with Putkin by his side and saying,
"I've looked into this man's eyes and I know he is a good person."
Hell, how good can a person be after being the former director of the
KGB? But Chimpy he know, because Chimpy he consulted with his father
who art in heaven.....hee, hee, hee, ho, ho.
The World Cup starts in five minutes. Carol and Herb are in France for
two months. I'm sure they must be in front of some television screen
sharing wine and mirth with the local populace.

314 pounds, I just stepped off the scale. Aches and everything else be
damned I have to get after it. There's a yearly DOT physical to be
taken by August 5th or else my job ceases to be. A new job assignment
will be effective August 13th, I'll probably go for an easy split shift
with the weekends off. It's been a tad warm during the afternoons so
haven't done too much on the embankment. I read a great quotation (
wwwviplist@thinkexist.com ) from G.B.Shaw: "The single biggest problem
in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." Oh yeah.
Megan got me up and going again on this blog site. Thanks again,
Megan. I sentr a few things to arrive shortly at her house. Love to
give stuff; It makes it seems like Christmas morning. Nancy still
gives us our daily walks for which we're thankful. The World Cup
Championship soccer game is on the video tomorrow, can't wait! I love
to hear the crowd sing and chant away the entire game. I can't ever
remember an American football game where the crowd sings and chants
with so much vigor. Lots of yelling and screaming, but no songs that I
can remember. Another beautiful day in Oceanside, California.

Questions
I got to thinking about how slow I am to attempt exercise. Is it fear of failure? Injury? What? I have the perfect setup, but I can't seem to get started. I'm going to shame myself into a program since I'm laying up all my confessions for anybody to read. Aside from responsibility to show up for work four days a week, there are no other time barriers to keep me from getting started on a program. So I am going to reread this post over and over and ask myself, why?
made it!
The first of three days off. So far, the usual routine: lie in bed and listen to Scott and BR on the sportstalk radio, then some computer bridge games, a bit of breakfast and pills and now Nancy licking my leg, buttering me up so to speak, seeking a walk in the park. She is so much fun. Unbelievably quiet, very strong, very gentle, always there. She can do no wrong, spell that d- e- n- i-a- l.
I've been on a spending spree for various items, mostly from Herrington's Catalog. The most recent is a CD disc retriever. I read the instructions (a first) and damned if this thing has no need for electricity, everything is either spring loaded or gravity induced. Pretty cool. Holds one hundred CD's, guess I'll work on that after this blog. Joy put all of my CD's in special books, but it's such a hassle I find that I don't go to the cabinet to look them up.
Tomorrow, I'll volunteer at Rancho Guajome. If anyone is interested, Google has a bunch of stuff on the place. Guajome is a name for frog pond. No more pond, but it must have been one great cocaphony of burps and chirps during warm summer nights.
I'm looking for some self-motivation to get started on strength and stretching exercises. I think I'll try to tie in blogging with exercising. Do both and write down what I've done. Notice that I'm marking the idea at the moment, not the actual project. Geez, I saw a photo of Ray Leal and myself while at the Academy. I couldn't get over the fact that I had a tapered waist! I can do it again.
Looking forward to walking through the backyard at Penny's. She remarked in an email how the trees have really turned out well. I'm very curious about the beechnut tree I transplanted from Jerry Mongron's house back in 1976. The Honey Locust tree on the north side was always a classic story of how it grew. After three years I had cut the dead portion down to earth level and left only a surviving sucker to fend for itself. It grew quite well.

First Day at Blogging
It's a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon in Oceanside with a typical gentle ocean breeze to cool the air. Joy and I will take Nancy for a walk and windsprints in Buddy Todd Park. We position ourselves on park picnic tables thirty yards apart and reward Nancy with dog biscuits as she sprints back and forth for her treats. I estimate that she runs somewhere in the vacinity of three hundred yards and then we finish off the rest of the time with a quarter mile stroll. It works out well.
Since Collin and Denise left on May 29th I decided to forgo beer in hopes of losing weight. So far it has been slow going, but with a stitched thumb from a knife wound - cutting dog biscuits in half - taking ten days to heal and no sense of disciplined direction for food intake the excuse is not excusable but understandable. Abstaining from beer has been realatively stress free with the exception of the first night as I drove home from work and I kept wanting to head for the Deli Liquor Store.
I've got quite a few plans and projects which are going to keep me busy. I'll be a volunteer docent at Rancho Guajome showing visitors the grounds and talking about the history of the ranch. Fridays, have Joy and I going to the Oceanside Senior Center for lunch and bridge. Work gives me about 22 hours in a four day work week (Mondays through Thursdays), Netflix DVD movies, computer bridge, a variety of books and serving as the homeowners gardening liaison keeps me ocupied. So that's it. This is the first blog. Thanks again, Megan.
